Building of 20,000 seater Akii-Bua Stadium Forward of Schedule- Minister Ogwang

State Minister for Sports activities, Peter Ogwang, has asserted that development of the 20,000-seater capability Akii-Bua Stadium is forward of schedule.

Ogwang confirmed the most recent improvement regarding works on the stadium on Tuesday morning through his social Media platforms.

Minister Sam Engola, Minister for Catastrophe Preparedness and Refugees, the Lira Metropolis Resident Metropolis Commissioner, the Lira District LC5 Chairperson, the Mayor of Lira Metropolis plus different Metropolis and District leaders, I inspected the continued development of the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium and Lira College Coaching Pitch in Lira Metropolis.”

“I’m happy to report that works at Akii-Bua are forward of schedule with total progress now at about 80%. The 20,000-seater facility is steadily taking form together with the primary stadium, indoor area, swimming pool, clubhouse, hostel, tennis, and coaching pitches.”

Ogwang stated authorities is working intently with CAF to make sure that the amenities meet the required requirements.

Works on the 20,000-seat multi-sport complicated started in January 2024 and are performed by Egyptian agency SAMCO Nationwide Building Firm.

The stadium is called after Uganda’s legendary athelete John Akii-Bua, who can be the nation’s first Olympic gold medalist, following his 400-meter hurdles victory on the 1972 Munich Video games.
